5th Group Summary

The blog we chose for this week's discussion focuses on racism towards African Americans. Refer to this URL: http://www.racismreview.com/blog/category/african-americans/. We found this to be a very interesting and different topic that we have yet to discuss over this quarter. Many of us can probably say we have witnessed many instances of racism towards African Americans, for example the use of racial slurs. While we know this is a subject that may expose many strong opinions, we want to hear your thoughts! Do you believe there is still racism towards the African American race today?

4th Group Summary

The blog we chose for this weeks discussion is http://www.aclu.org/immigrants-rights/arizona-immigration-law-threatens-civil-rights-and-public-safety-says-aclu. This blog focuses on immigration problems in the United States, particularly in Arizona. We found this blog to be interesting because we constantly hear stories in the news regarding immigrants and how they are effecting our economy. Many of you at one point in your life may have felt discriminated against and can relate to this article. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts!

3rd Group Summary

The blog we chose for this weeks discussion is http://www.newyorkemploymentlawyerblog.com/age_discrimination/.This blog focuses on age discrimination in the work force. We found this blog to be appealing because age discrimination is not something you may hear about very often, but during these hard times, it is very prevalent. Many of you may have been discriminated against because of your age over the past couple of years, but you may not have been aware of it. When reading and commenting on this blog, remember that not all of the posts are recent, they range from 2007-2011. Enjoy!

2nd group Summary

This week we choose the blog http://www.texasemploymentlawblog.com/articles/sexual-discrimination/. The blog concentrates on the sexual-discrimination. For now the women are experiencing several social problems. For example, women want to get a higher and salaried position but actually they can’t get it because they are female. So this week’s topic, we want to question whether this actual situation is a result of market competition between male and female or just a kind of discrimination.

Summary

For our blog we chose http://diversitynews.blogspot.com/. This website encompasses many current issues in varying categories of diversity. This will benefit all of you because you will have options in terms of what you discuss. Try to stay on the first page though so we do not get too far back in the news. These topics range from workplace discrimination, to employers hiring a more diverse staff, to gay students receiving death threats. Keep in mind that the majority of these postings take place in Britain.

Welcome to the English 110 Blog!

As the quarter progresses, we will use this space to discuss the various examples of public writing on our course topic we might find in other blogs; as explained in class, this is a low-stakes environment where you are asked to both analyze and discuss the writings that are assigned to you by your peers each week.

Until then, though, feel free to comment below and become more accustomed to the class blog. I would also recommend "following" this blog (look at the sidebar to the right) so that you are alerted when your classmates make their weekly posts.
